Frequently Asked Questions

Program & Breeding

Do you breed woolly-coated Siberian Huskies?
No. Thistle Hill's breeding program focuses on Siberian Huskies that meet the AKC breed standard, including correct coat type.

Do you breed white Siberian Huskies?
White is a recognized color in the Siberian Husky standard and can occur in our pairings. We do not breed specifically for white and cannot guarantee it. Color is never a primary consideration in our breeding decisions.

Will my puppy have blue eyes?
Siberian Huskies can have blue eyes, brown eyes, one of each, or parti-colored eyes. All are accepted by the breed standard. Eye color is influenced by genetics that vary across our pairings. Eyes do not open until around three weeks of age and can continue changing until approximately sixteen weeks. We do not guarantee eye color. We also do not charge more for any particular eye color or coat color. Every puppy is priced based on the breeding, not their appearance.

Placement & Selection

How are puppies placed?
Puppies are placed based on temperament, structure, and compatibility with the home they will join. Observations made during early development help guide placement decisions so that each puppy is matched with the environment where they are most likely to thrive.

Can families choose their puppy?
Families are welcome to share preferences, but final placement decisions are made by Thistle Hill. Matching puppies by temperament and lifestyle compatibility helps support long-term success for both the puppy and the family.

Do you place puppies with families who have children or other pets?
Yes, when the puppy's temperament and the household environment are a good match. Every family situation is considered individually.

Application Process

What is the application process?
The process begins with a written application followed by a phone or video conversation. Once a litter is confirmed, families receive updates as puppies grow and develop. Placement decisions are made prior to go-home based on temperament and compatibility.

Does submitting an application guarantee a puppy?
No. An application allows us to determine whether our program and your expectations are a good fit. Because litters are limited, not every applicant will receive a puppy.

Do you require a deposit?
Deposits are discussed only after a litter is confirmed and placement is likely. We do not accept deposits prior to that stage. Deposits are refundable in accordance with CA regulations.

This is intentional. Rather than collecting deposits from a long list of hopeful families, we move through the process thoughtfully and communicate directly with applicants when a placement is becoming likely. It is a different approach than many programs, but it reflects how seriously we take the match. The best way to stay connected is to submit a complete application and maintain open communication with us.

Health, Registration & Contracts

What health care do puppies receive before going home?
Each puppy receives age-appropriate vaccinations, a veterinary examination, microchip identification, and complete health documentation before leaving for their new home.

Are puppies registered with the AKC?
Yes. Puppies are placed with limited AKC registration unless otherwise specified in a separate written agreement.

Do you offer full rights?
Full registration is not offered at the time of standard placement. Families interested in showing or preserving the breed are encouraged to apply and have that conversation with us directly. Show prospects are placed thoughtfully and any full rights or co-ownership arrangements are handled through a separate written agreement.

Do you have a health guarantee?
Yes. Our purchase agreement includes both an initial health assurance and a genetic health guarantee. Full details are reviewed with families prior to placement.

Go-Home & Logistics

When do puppies go home?
Puppies typically go home at 9 weeks of age or later, depending on development and readiness.

Where are puppies picked up?
Whenever possible, puppies are picked up in person so families can meet the puppy and review important transition information.

Do you ship puppies?
Transportation may be an option in some cases once placement is confirmed. We work only with insured, experienced transporters and prioritize the health and safety of every puppy above convenience or cost. Options are discussed individually.

Ongoing Support

Do you provide support after puppies go home?
Yes. Thistle Hill remains available to puppy families for questions, guidance, and support throughout the dog's life.

What happens if a family can no longer keep their dog?
Dogs bred by Thistle Hill must be returned to us or rehomed with our approval. This requirement helps ensure every dog remains safe and properly cared for throughout its lifetime.
